Infrared thermography can also be used in optical lock-in mode for non destructive testing. Optical lock-in thermography is well suited for deeper default inspection. See the Thermography Tutorial on the left for more information on lock-in thermography.

A lock-in thermography setup typically includes:

- 1 or more heaters, IR lamps or projectors
- 1 support for the heaters
- 1 controller to adjust the signal of the heater
- 1 acquisition station (PC)
- 1 infrared camera
